The symbolism here... it's just so accurate in a way.

Thank you so much! I wanted to put many of their songs' symbols in this piece ^_^

Hmm just a thought: Is that train on Orzabal's side from Sowing the Seeds of Love? 'Cos I remembered hearing him saying something like 'love train, travelling coast on coast' on it or something like that. :p

And may I inquire of the mask on Smith's side? I've seen it appear repeatedly in your paintings of these guys, but I'm not sure where the mask is from. Is it something related to the hurting?

Orzabal's train: Yup that's correct :D

The Mask: Yup, it's related to The Hurting! This mask comes from the "Change" music video (which was my first introduction to TFF :D )

Holy shit, that's freaing AMAZING! Um...I was wondering, if it's not too intrusive, could I ask you a few questions about chalk art? I'm thinking of embarking on a big chalk project very soon but am inexperienced with chalk. I felt it would help me to get some more info about the medium from people who knew what they're doing with it, and judging bythis, you do! ^^;

1. Is the drawing process with chalk much the same as with pencil or other mediums, ie. guidelines, lineart, colour, shading? Or are there different, more efficient ways of going about it?
2. Have you ever done something like this on a sidewalk/pavment and if so, was it very different or more difficult in any way?
3. Any idea how long this took you to complete? How long do you think it might take for a single person over a single day to comlete a 2mx2m chalk drawing/painting on pavement?
4. Are there different kind of chalks and if so what would you recommend using? I'm looking for quality, ease of use, and a wide colour range. If there's a good brand you know, I'd love to hear it.

Sorry if that's a bit much! I'm asking a few other people too but I would so appreciate your input as this stunning piece of yours really wowed me...thank you very much! (:

Hi I'm very sorry for the delayed response ^^; I hope this would help you a lot, even though I haven't done any chalk work in 3 years :XD:

1) You could say that the drawing process is like using a pencil; draw and erase. What is not recommended if you were to do this on a smooth surface is smudging the colors because you'll end up making it look...meh :XD: You could color it as if you're using color pencils, except you could always draw over something like painting with acrylics or oils (?). Another suggestion, color your work solidly. Don't go for the faded look.

2) I never done this on a sidewalk/pavement, but assuming the surface is more rough, the colors would not erase as easily. So if you accidentally touch a colored spot, it wouldn't erase as much, thus allowing you to be less delicate on your work; I had to be delicate on the board because if my finger were to accidentally touch a colored spot, it would erase that spot. Also, be careful not to scrape yourself :XD:

3) It took me 16 hrs overall to complete this picture on a very large board. If it were to be on a rough surface, I'm assuming it would take longer. It also depends on what you wanted to draw. Anything that has a lot of objects and shading (like this one), would take a lot of time. A simple image on the other hand, would require significantly less time; you could cut it down to less than 6 hrs if is in fact a simple picture ;)

4) As for the type of chalk used...I honestly don't know :XD: The cafe that wanted a big chalk picture from me provided a bucket full of different kinds of chalk of all shapes and sizes, and oh my, the chalk pieces looked old and scrambled! Since the chalk pieces belonged to the cafe, I never kept them. But I "think" oil chalks are easier to use (?)

I hope that helped :XD:
