I'm sure all of you have seen this before since it's now 4-years old lol! suggested that I should put this here on DA instead of using an outside link...
Here's some useful Questions and Answers that I copied and pasted from past comments:
Can you use regular markers for it? I tried out other markers before, and they work like that too LOL!! But darker colors are more effective in this case. By the way, the crayola markers I'm using are ridiculously cheap. You can find them for under US $1 if you look in the right places
I bought Water-colour paper today, can you do it with that too? It's extremely good with water colour paper
what do you do your linearts with? cause it looks like pencil, but then again it should blend... I used a pen :3
Would this work with rose art markers? I tried it out. It works quite well if you used heavy/dark colors
That is such a cool method!! where did you learn it? I accidentally found it when I played around with water and these markers lol!
would bristol board be okay to use? haha, i tried it, and it didnt really work out that well...
where in the world did you buy that white sharpie? I have silver ones, but not white. silver ones are just as good. In fact, white sharpies aren't really important, they just add a little extra to your pictures
Question though it never says how you get the q-tip to color Do you roll around the marker a bit or press it on it or what? I usually I rub the wet q-tip onto the marker blotch
Did you come up with this method yourself? yes
where can you buy the medium weight paper? You can buy the medium weight paper at a nearby "Michaels" or "Aaron Brothers"
Did you use the 64 pack? It only came with 10 markers lol!
Just goes to show what you can do with a little patience and creativity
For the record, this technique works because the ink in crayola markers is water soluble, and you're basically water-coloring. There are many brands of professional-grade markers that will work with this same technique, but Tombow is my favorite. In addition to coming in many different colors, the ink is higher quality and will last better over time. You can also try coloring on a piece of plastic rather than scrap paper to absorb more ink into the Q-tip :3
I just noticed in the 5th question in the description you have accidentally used the avatar of the asker as your own response. I have way too much time on my hands.
I've never thought of using markers this way, I really want to buy some and try it now!
By the way have you tried wetting the paper before using the markers, like if you're painting with watercolours? I think the result can be interesting for light colours. c:
